Adopt a pet for its lifetime...

When you adopt a pet you are making a lifetime commitment to love and care for it. Lifetime could be anything up to 20 years.

Choose your new best friend carefully and be a responsible pet owner. In no time at all you'll find out how wonderful it is to share your home with an animal who gives unconditional love.

When you adopt a pet from Sydney Dogs & Cats Home you are saving a life and we thank you for giving them the second chance they so deserve.

Follow the lives of two of our lucky pets after their arrival at the pound and see how their lives turned out.

Zacky's Story - adopted 5 years ago from SDCH

Zacky was born on the 11th November. He was a Christmas puppy.

By Easter, just four short months later, he sat alone in the pound in a cage on the concrete floor, with no idea what he had done wrong; why his family had left him there and why he was surrounded by so many unhappy dogs.

Zacky is a forever dog and now at 5 years old is still very much a puppy, so PLEASE if you are considering giving a dog or cat as a present, please make it a FOREVER pet and consider a pet from the pound. They give so much love in return and come in all ages, shapes and sizes.

Benny's Story - adopted 2 years ago from SDCH

Benny, was just four days old when he was brought into SDCH, with his mother and two sisters.

A volunteer managed to find homes for his two sisters, but not Benny or his sweet mother. Two months later, Liza* and Benny were still waiting for their forever homes. Sadly Liza was put to sleep as there were just too many cats and not enough homes, and Benny was left on his own.

Within the week Benny was adopted by the volunteer. Now he lives with Sally and Harri (his step cat sisters). He's now a big boy who weighs 8 kilos, eats enough for the three cats and is loved by everyone.

So again if you are considering adopting a cat or dog, or giving an animal as a present, make sure that the recipient wants it and is prepared to look after it for its lifetime and try to choose one from the Pound - and save a life.
