Scooby
Hello with
thanks to everyone at SDCH and St. George Veterinary Clinic
for getting me through being so unwell and then finding me a
home.I promised Judy I would let you know how I am going.
She came to see me after my final Vet check before I left
for the last time. It was so lovely to see her. When I first got here there were things within easy reach - particularly for a little fella like me who can jump very high. I have noticed since my new two legged friend came home to find I had chewed and played with many things and emptied the contents of her work bag that everything seems to be up quite high now. I don't mind - I have many toys of my own. My favourite is a hard, red, rubber thing that I play with and treats come out. It is supposed to take ages for me to get all the treats out but I can do it in under 5 minutes. You will be really happy to know that my tummy has settled completely and I eat a healthy and normal dog diet now without any problems. I am really enjoying that. I have 2 other furry friends. One is a very big black very old fella who sleeps a lot. The other is a little rabbit I say hello to from time to time. I think she is quite fond of me. I will let you know how I am going down the track. My thanks to Della for fostering me. You took great care of me and I look forward to seeing you again soon.
Love, |

Simon Hello everyone at Sydney Dogs and Cats Home, we adopted Simon a few months ago and he is just everything we could have hoped for in a dog. Although younger than we originally thought, he ended up being exactly what we needed. He has graduated from beginner puppy classes and with soon be moving onto an intermediate level. Simon is constantly full of energy and loves to chase his stick and ball, however, in the evenings he quickly quietens down and loves to sleep in his basket. As Simon is quite young we have had a few mishaps with him ripping up files that were delivered to our door and with him taking (and chewing) the washing on the line. Simon gets on well with other dogs and although he plays rather rough at times most other dogs seem to enjoy his company also. Thank you so much Sydney Dogs and Cats Home for letting us take home this special puppy who is now so much a part of this family! Love from Stuart, Alex, Lachlan, Alasdair and Caitlin |

Rosie (formerly Raisin) After my father died around three years ago, our Maltese Terrier, Bonnie, became very depressed and lonely as my father had usually been home and they had kept one another company. We decided that we would have a look at your Animal Shelter instead of going straight to a Pet Shop. It was somewhat heartbreaking to see how many animals were there and how friendly they were - many happy getting pats and walks. I also noticed that everyone there was very professional and loving with the animals. We saw a little black toy poodle looking rather meek and shy and supposed that we might handle her. Some of your staff showed us to your viewing room and we introduced the little black dog to Bonnie. We then decided to adopt the little black dog, known as 'Raisin', who had been found with inches of dreglocks all over her and she'd been underweight. Once we took her home, we named her 'Rosie' and began to care for her and let Bonnie adjust to the change. Certainly, Bonnie and Rosie now had a friend. Rosie keeps Bonnie running all day and Bonnie has actually lost weight and is looking much healthier. Rosie is a kind and sweet little thing with very shifty eyes and though she gets jealous of ANY attention given to Bonnie, we understand. A large, loving and constant home must be a big change and some habits die hard. If you even look at her, she's roll over for a pat. At any rate, both of the dogs usually get along like a house on fire and give us endless laughter and amusement - especially as Rosie's growl/yap/bark is so funny I'd just like to thank every staff member there and congratulate you on all of your successes, especially one that helped both of my dogs. Thank you. Clare |

Lulu (formerly Lilly) Hello to everyone at Sydney Dogs and Cats Home We adopted Lulu (formerly Lilly) in May at 6 months old. Lulu has settled into our home well and she absolutely adores her big "brother" Milo. She gets quite distressed if he is out of her sight. It took Milo a few weeks to completely accept Lulu as he was still grieving the loss of his mate, Basil to kidney disease the month before. Lulu still drives him crazy - chewing his face, chewing his ears and stealing his toys, but as you can see from the photos, they are now inseparable. She has grown quite a lot over the past few months and is now almost the same size as Milo.
We took them
both away for a weekend to the family farm in Bathurst and
they had great fun tearing around together, chasing birds
and eating kangaroo poo (disgusting habit that we actively
discourage!). Lulu has made lots of friends in the
neighbourhood and in the local park, where she goes for
daily walks. She walks reasonably well on the lead, although
still pulls a little when she We would like to thank you for saving Lulu and especially to her foster carer, Leanne for looking after her so well. Keep up the great work!!! Heather, Scot, Milo and Lulu |

Spice (formerly Sheila) We adopted Spice (previous name as Sheila) from Sydney Dog home about 6 months ago. Spice is a very social dog and its great having her as part of the family. She is adored by the children. She makes us laugh and brings some "spice" into our life (thus the name). Her markings are not so common and when we brought her home a number of people commented that she looked like a "hyena". We would have to admit that we started to wonder as she is an incredible jumper and runs like the wind flat to the ground. We don't know what breeds of dogs she has in her but whatver it is it's fast. She also took some time to settle down and was fairly wild (not in a bad way - just very very exitable, quite timid, scatty and particularly nervous with men).We figure the way she would regularly jump our fence from standing position may explain how she ended up at Sydney Dogs and Cats Home. But she has learnt not to do that now and settled down well.
Spice is
affectionate and is becoming quite protection of the
children and the home. She is still young at heart and
we still have some challenging moments with her energy
levels. Yet she loves nothing more than curling up next to
us on a lounge, lying in front of the fire, playing with the

He is getting on well with our other dog Rocky and they hang out together all day . Rocky has already lost weight ( a good thing ) playing with his new buddy. Snookums Hello to everyone at the Sydney Dogs and Cats Home. My name is Snookums and will always be remembered as Snookums. And we are Lusi and Doddy. We adopted Snookums on 25/08/2008 and it's been wonderful to have her. We don't want to change her name because we really want to keep the name 'Snookums' as thanks to everyone at the Sydney Dogs and Cats Home who really took great care of her. She deserved to have that love. Snookums is a smart, lovely dog. When we brought her home she was a little bit scared and we are afraid to leave her alone at home, but she didn't cry. She always greets us when we arrive home from work. The funny thing about her is that every time I arrive home she always gives me my shoes and runs around beside me. My husband loves her very much and we always gives her a walk twice a day. Thank you Claudia, and everyone, for letting us have Snookums. With all our best wishes, Doddy, Lusi and Snookums. |

Poppy Hi Everyone, We were lucky to be given the opportunity of having Poppy join our family last December. I promised that I would let you know how he is going and I guess time has really slipped away. Poppy loves is walks and is so smart that he picks our shoes out of the wardrobe, which I guess is his way of saying please take me for a walk. He is also very affectionate and has become a lovely brother to our other dog Buffy. Poppy loves cuddles and gives us kisses every day. Poppy is the most lovely natured dog and I am still amazed that someone treated him so poorly. Kind regards, Vanessa |

Pappy Hi Sydney Dogs & Cats Home, Wow, I can't believe it's been 2 years already. When pappy first arrived, he was a little scared, but now look how beautiful he is. He loves hanging out with his new dad as well. He even has a best friend for life in the next door neighbour's dog. Who's a luck boy! Thank you so much for the work you do and the joy you bring to people like myself Kind regards Kirsty |

Shadow Hi Shadow is mixing well with the other dogs due in no small part to her lovely nature. She is in awe of the "back yard" which is around 3 acres. We took her for an orientation walk on Saturday and then yesterday took her out to see the rest of the property; another 20 odd acres. She is good in that she does not wander so we can let her run around - the property is fully fenced so she can not get into too much trouble. She initially was very clingy, even coming into the laundry when I was doing the washing but has eased off a bit as she realised that if we went somewhere we would come back again. It seems in her previous life she was allowed on the sofa as she was quite happy to take up residence albeit for only a brief moment until she was called down again !! She is eating well and has been sleeping very well, particularly last night as I think she tired herself out during the day. We are very happy with her and we hope she is similarly happy with us. Will arrange some photos and send them in later. All the best

Tiny Hi, my name is Tiny. I'm a Staffy X and a bit small for a Staffy - hence the name. My owner adopted me just over 5 months ago. I love my new home and the fact that my owner loves going for long walks every morning. I hate it when my owner goes to work (and have torn all the wire on the back door to try and get in) but she reckons I'm the lucky one as I have my own dog house and backyard during the day, with lots of toys, and towels, and can sleep all day and I have lots of lizards to chase. When my owner comes home I run to the fridge as that is where the chicken wings are kept. We then play ball for a while. I have actually trained my owner quite well. I get to lie on the sofa and watch tv in the evening. When she tries to study, I insist on sitting on her lap as I'm sure it helps her in typing assignments. I'm well behaved and fairly quite. I'm mostly obedient and other than the wire door I haven't destroyed anything. I sit, heal, stay, etc really well. I do pull on the lead a bit when we walk. My owner doesn't understand that she just needs to walk faster. If my owner goes away for work I get to stay with her brother. He has a Maltese X by the name of Cindy whom he bought at the Sydney Dogs and Cats Home a few years ago. I must say, Cindy is fairly spoilt!
Thank you Sydney
Dogs and Cats Home for taking good care of me during my stay
with you. I hear Jasmine who shared a person viewing
area with me found a home and is really happy with her new
owner. |

Sully (Formerly Nippy) Hello to all the wonderful people at the Sydney Dogs and Cats Home It is with the greatest of pleasure, that we are updating you on the progress of 'SULLY' formerly known as 'NIPPY' He has been at his new home for just over a week. It is like this has been his home forever! He is the happiest little dog you could ever wish to meet. He has so many toys, he does not know what to play with first! He really enjoys his 3 daily walks and is spending a lot of time marking his territory. From the moment we got him home he ate well and is still doing so. He is really becoming the little dog he deserves to be. We have had our little chap groomed and I have included some before and after pictures (please forgive the bow, the girls at the parlour did it). We really love our little mate and cannot thank you enough for allowing us to adopt him. Thank you for all your dedication and caring. Anthony & Kellie |

Button Hi there! It is Candice here, my partner and I recently adopted Button the Samoyed. I just wanted to let you know that she is doing well. She is the most, kind hearted gentle soul and she has taken to her new home and routine like a duck to water. She seems to have had training somewhere along the way in her life as she is toilet trained, sits, travels well, walks well on the lead and is just very well behaved. in general, although she loves to dig the yard and chew shoes (I have lost 2 pairs already but we will work on that) . Also it seems she is in love.... And so is our Malamute Coopa, they played for 4 hours when she came home, non stop (she was a brown Samoyed by the end of it from rolling in all the mud in the yard) and after having a big bath each and some afternoon tea they were at it again until 10pm, then up at 3am on Sunday morning playing. When they are not playing they are sleeping together, it is soooo adorable and we just couldn't have asked for a better match with them - instant bond. I have attached some pictures for you to have a look at, I will keep sending them as I take them! Thanks again for our special little girl. Cheers, Candice

Mojo (Formerly Fluffy) Dear Sydney Dogs and Cats Home, I have had Mojo for a few months now. Although he is still learning some basic training he has settled in well. So far he has has more than his fair share of dramas with many late night visits to the vet probably more for my benefit than his as he was never very sick but I'm just paranoid! Mojo has become a very loyal little boy as I take him everywhere with me. It's very sweet as he often feels like he needs to protect me which is quite ironic as he is only a little fluffy dog! Mojo has so many endearing habits like following my cat around the house as he is still confused as to what it is! I am so glad that I got him! Keep up the good work! Lots of love, Rosa |

2 ½
year old staffy x ridgeback - I went to live
with my new family in February 08. I was a little nervous at
first - did the big escape thing, but I have settled down
nicely and only go out when I'm
I love walks and
running when I'm let off my leash. My favourite places to
run are when we go camping and when we go to the beach - I
am very well behaved. I really don't like storms - they make
me shake. My new family loves me and I am a very happy girl. |

Missy Hi
We adopted Misty
a little while ago, so I thought I should send you an email
to say ......thank you very much, she is the most beautiful
animal. My cat Monty who we adopted from a vets 7 years ago
has accepted her and we are quite the family..... as you can
see in one of our photos that I have She has settled in well, we adore her to bits. We walk her twice a day and most of the other dogs in the neighbourhood have worked out that she wouldn't hurt a fly, she just looks a bit scary as she is now solid muscle! I hope you are all well, thank you once again for the amazing work you do, Misty is doing really well which in turn makes us very happy (and fitter).
Kind regards, |

Gypsy Hi everyone at Carlton, Thought I would update you with how our dog "Gypsy" (sometimes referred to as 'Jane') is going since we 'adopted' her from you 1 mth ago. She has managed to get out of places that even "Houdini" would be proud of She has chewed many a shoe, dog bed, garden sculptures, wood for the fire etc. Dug holes that would have got her out of the best jails The backyard looks like a tornado has hit it & my husband just shakes his head & say's "you wanted a dog"! Torn my shoulder from her pulling on the lead (not really, but feels like it) To mention just a few. I take her to "Doggy school" every Sunday to learn to be "obedient". (we can live in hope). We have managed to go up a class but I think it was just to give the next instructor a laugh! I take her to "Doggy playschool" 3 x wk to 'socialise' with other dogs & walk her the other days of the week. I talk about her at work every day which really means, I don't have a life! Despite the above, we all love her to bits & she has us completely hooked. However, she is very timid of big dogs, whimpers when they come near her & is very afraid of cars when walking which makes me think she may have had some sort of trauma in her 'other life' Hopefully she will get over this. So, Gypsy is well & truly part of the family now. Shirley |

Skyler Hi, My name is Luke and my parents bought our dog Skyler that we have re-named Tasha from Sydney Dogs & Cats Home a few years ago. It was a long drive to get to the dogs home, but is was well worth it. I won't forget how I felt when my sister and I came back from school to our new dog.
When we got her
she wouldn't bark or walk. But then she slowly started
barking and eventually walking. She is what we call a
Cat-Dog because she HATES water and baths. And she avoids
wet grass and bigger dogs as they scare. Buses also frighten
her. But now she walks happily, barks when She is getting better with bigger dogs as we are dog sitters so we get everything from Dachshunds to Golden Retrievers. She is a lovely companion. We feel great knowing that our dog came from a bad home that abused her, but we have helped her get better and we have also helped the Sydney Dogs & Cats Home with their aim to make all the dogs that they can happy. We have never and will never buy a dog anyway but from a pound because it is the right thing to do, purchasing a sick / abused dog and helping them / making them better. Thank You Sydney Dogs & Cats Home for A Great Dog. And we hope that you continue to achieve your goal of helping animals.
Thank You, Paw Print, Paw Print, Paw Print P.S. We will send some photos in the near future. |

Ned (formerly Nick) Dear Sydney Dogs Home, It's been nearly 2 years since Ned came home with us in early June 2006. He was in SDCH with his sister Nancy, and was such a quiet, withdrawn little dog. He is a Kelpie X Corgi X maybe Border-Collie (in other words, a normal sized dog with very short legs!) How we wish we had taken both of them together, as he has been such a wonderful addition to our family. Ned is now a very happy dog, who lives with 2 cats, Sam and Zonk and Flopsy the rabbit. Zonk and Ned are good friends, but Sam still believes Ned is the 'under-dog' and frequently reminds him of this. Ned has also adopted a fluffy toy moose called speckles who he takes with him to his basket every night. Looking back at the old photo's from when we got Ned, it's amazing to see how much weight he has put on in the last 2 years. ... but he still has very short legs !!! He is happy and healthy, loves going on long walks in the bush, chasing his soccer ball and coming on beach holidays with us, where he has learned to kayak .. Although he is a big woos and cries if we get too far away from land.
Thanks so much
for introducing us to Ned. |

Tess Hello to everyone at the Sydney Dogs Home! I adopted Tess on 27/3/08 after quietly meeting and interacting with her at the Home. Although she was not very receptive to my presence, I still felt like I could offer her a safe and loving home where she would soon realise that she finally had a place to call her own. A few days went by and still she did not warm to either myself or my husband and was extremely quiet. Then out came some juicy cooked chicken! Tess opened started to open up with some yummy food, fun walks and warm cuddles on the bean bag and then finally we started to get kisses and cuddles initiated by her!! We soon realised that there was so much more to Tess than we first thought. She was very excited, loved to play....but with all her sweetness, still needed some discipline. Obviously taught to beg, Tess required lessons to 'sit', drop 'down', wait to be told she could eat and understand that she was not boss of us or the lounges and bean bags. With patience and dedication to her training over the past few weeks, Tess has developed into a lovely and obedient little dog who is a valued part of our family. She is most loved and well looked after and is enjoying her quiet but fun life with us. It is such a pleasure to come home and see her come flying to our feet, little stump going and smiles all round! Corrinne. |

Bella (formerly QT) Hi everyone its Bella here (formerly known as QT) It's only been 4 weeks since I was adopted but I fit in so well. Coming home I was a little angel until they pulled into the drive put the car in park and then I decided I had car sickness, don't think they thought it was so funny somehow. Obviously I use my cute puppy looks to get my way all the time and stole my big brother Bandit's bone when I came home but he was just so happy to have me here he didn't mind at all, plus I look sad and I get to sleep on mum and dad's bed (dad's a big softie). I have learnt to sit already and will wait till I am allowed to eat at dinner time and I also have learnt to give kisses and I'm keen to learn more. I love running around with Bandit until we both just fall asleep exhausted and when I come inside it's cuddle time with my human brother and sister James and Jainah who can't get enough of my hugs and kisses. I also love to sometimes be naughty and steal dad's socks and drag them through the dirt outside but everyone is so happy and can't imagine life without me so they soon forgive me.
Thanks to
everyone at Sydney Dogs and Cats Home for looking after me
and finding my new Big licks and paws up Bella PA. I love to check and see all my friends getting adopted and hope they are as happy as I am |

Prudance (formerly Prudence) Hi everyone at SD&CH, We were fortunate enough to foster, then adopt, Prudence (1 yr old female Chihuahua – pound no. 296) back on 22 December 2007. Our gorgeous little 17 year old Silky Terrier, Darcie passed away in November 07. We were devastated to say the least but Prudence has helped us immensely with the healing process. We still wonder how anyone could not have wanted this gorgeous little Chihuahua girl who is the most affectionate and fun loving little dog. Prudence (now re-named Prudance due to her propensity for dancing on her back legs when begging or wanting to be cuddled) has settled into our family so quickly and now fancies herself as the princess of the entire household. Our 11 year old Yorkshire Terrier Tyler has absolutely fallen in love with her and they both spend a lot of time play fighting. Our Maltese X Toby, is still a little bemused by her presence but will sneak a kiss or two in when he thinks no one else is watching! Prudance has not quite worked out yet that the coffee and dining tables are not to be considered an extension of the floor but we’re working on that. She has, however, quickly worked out that our bed is a wonderfully warm and comfortable place to sleep especially when ‘mum’ or ‘dad’ strokes your tummy whilst you’re drifting off into the ‘land of nod’.
So, we can’t
thank you enough for taking in this ‘little ray of sunshine’
so that we could offer her a ‘forever home’. We absolutely
adore her and we think she feels the same way about us too.
Warm regards, |

Gussy (formerly Sheba) Dear Sydney Dogs and Cats Home, It's Gussy (although I'm known as Sheba now) here. I thought tha I would just send you an email to let you know that things are going really well here in my new home. My new boyfriend, Solomon (you can see us together in one of the pictures) is a really nice fellow. Every day we enjoy walks together in this massive off leash park down the road from where I now live. I just love to run around and smell all these exciting smells, and meet new friends. I've also been put on a healthy diet and with the regular excercise I'm starting to loose that extra weight that I'm carrying around. I am a lot more fit and I feel great! I went to the beach a little while ago and while it was an interesting experience with lots of fascinating smells, I wasn't brave enough to jump in the water (unlike Solomon who got soaked right to the core). Thanks for looking after me while I was with the home. You were all really great and took good care of me. Much love, Sheba (& Solomon, Maike and Michael) |

Tilly (formerly Tilla)
My name is Tilly
(Tilla at SDCH) and i was given my forever home in Jan 2006.
I didn't realise I was actually home so after 4 days in my
new backyard I dug out under the fence and was off in search
of my old home. My new owners were heart broken and looked
for me everywhere. After 2 months of looking they had given
away all my food and were wondering whether they would ever
be able to adopt someone else. They were on their way to
dinner one Sunday night and were travelling along It was me and I had run two suburbs to my old owners (who had dumped me originally). They didn't let anyone know that they had me so that's why I was never reported found. My old owners didn't want me and gave me back to my new owners and I have realised just how much I needed my new family. I am now No 1. protector to baby Lachlan (I give him lots of kisses, much to my owners horror!) and I love nothing better than to go and play on the beach and sit in the water. I still like to dig, but only to bury my bones and make a cool spot to lie. Thank you Sydney Dogs and Cats Home without you I wouldn't have ended up as contented as I am. |

Auston and Sissy We have two dogs, Auston and Sissy, from Sydney Dogs & Cats Home. We could not ask for better 'kids'. They are very adorable and amazing dogs. We adopted our first dog from Sydney Dogs & Cat Home almost 4 years ago. His name is Auston (we kept the names which were given by Shelter staff for both of our dogs). Auston is an incredible creature, very well behaved, very smart, caring and understanding. We know that he has been through a lot in his life before we've got him; sometimes you can see a deep sadness in his eyes but when he notices that my husband and I are looking at him he is changing. Some people might think it sounds silly but you can see him smiling and you can see an amazing joy in his eyes and joyful behaviour when we come back home from work. He is jumping on us asking for cuddles and kisses. Recently we adopted another dog, Sissy, from SDCH as well. She is few years younger than Auston and they are very different but they are getting a long just fine. Auston is much calmer and likes to sleep a lot but Sissy is full of energy and she likes a lot of attention; she also likes to claim on pillows and anything soft and watch everyone else from the top. She also sleeps on top of my or my husbands pillow at night. Auston likes to sleep almost on the edge of the bed. The first week was hard for all of us when we took Sissy. She was very shy and uncomfortable with us and in a house and Auston did not look very happy either. In few days Auston could not resist our charming Sissy. They are best mates now. She won our hearts in no time, the same as Auston did. Auston and Sissy enjoy their time together and like to play together. Now they've got some sort of competition, just like kids. When we come back home with our dogs and I open the gates, they start race, who will be the first at the front door. Sissy wins all the time. You know it seems that they've been always with us. They are part of us. It is hard to imagine our lives without Sissy and Auston. It is not hard to look after them at all especially when they reward you with cuddles and kisses. They are always there for us and we are for them. Every moment with them is priceless.
Regards, |

Jesse I'm Jesse. I was just Jess at the Dogs Home, but my mum thought it sounded like a girl's name, so she added an "e" to my name and tells everyone I'm named after Jesse James! I've been living with her since September 2007 and I've been bugging her to write and let everyone know how I've settled into my new home, so she's finally getting around to it. I had some pretty bad anxiety issues when I first got here, and that made Mum pretty anxious too!
But I'm much
better now, although I don't like to be locked in the house
when Mum goes to work. So if it's raining and she closes the
laundry door so I can't get outside through my doggie-door,
I get pretty naughty and pull down the living room curtains!
But mostly I'm a good boy. I'm even getting Mum takes me to the dog park a few times a week after she gets home from work, and I love to run and play with the other dogs. I have play dates sometimes too, and my favourite friends are Spotty and Daisy. Mum is sending a couple of photos of me. One is with one of my favourite toys, Bear, and the other is me lazing on Mum's bed. She doesn't let me sleep there usually, but sometimes I'm just so cute that she can't bring herself to make me get down! Thank you to everyone at the Sydney Dog's Home for taking good care of me and helping me find a "forever" home! Love to everyone from Jesse and his mum!. |

Nova and Poppet Hi All, Just thought you'd love to see this pic of our two SDCH adoptees. Nova (Belgian Shepherd Cross) was adopted by us in November 2004. I spotted him on my volunteer orientation day, and it was love at first sight. He was listed as an older dog (approx 8yo at the time), and was finding it hard to find his forever home. Three years later, he's still going strong, although starting to slow down a little. At the time he was a little timid of strangers, and any unfamiliar voices or sudden noises would have him running for cover. Now, he is happy to greet anyone he comes across! Poppet was originally fostered by us in April 2005, with her three kittens, which all sadly passed away from cat flu. She then became a wonderful surrogate mother to a kitten who was abandoned at the shelter. Again, Poppet was a very timid cat, and after her adopted kitten was rehomed, we decided she should not spend any more time in the shelter, so she also came to live with us. She has since come out of her shell, although still shy around visitors. I used to be one of those people who thought it would be near impossible to have a cat and dogs share the same house, but as you can see from the photo, our two pets are very comfortable in each others company. If anything, you could probably say Poppet is the boss! To anyone thinking of adopting, you will never look back.
Regards, |

Max (formerly Apple) A Dear Staff of Sydney Dogs and Cats Home, We are sending you a short note on the progress of "Max" a.k.a "B.J" and "Apple" (Cattle x Border Collie). Max was brought from your home on the 20th of October, 2007 and since then has managed to find and take over our loving family. Max came ready trained, being able to sit, shake, stay and walks well. What's more he hardly ever barks, which had us a bit concerned at first...but it is just his quiet, gentle nature. A better dog we could never have found, even from a breeder. When we first took Max to our vet she was very impressed with his condition and even paraded him in front of other people at the surgery, proudly announcing where he was from. We would really like to thank you for caring for such a nice loving spirit and giving him a chance to find a new home. Best wishes and thanks again, The Halliday family. 16 February 2008
This email is to
imform you that beautiful Max passed away suddenly on
Saturday 16/2/08 Max was a beautiful spirit that won everyone's heart he came in contact with He is very much missed by his family. But we are thankful to have met Max and have him became a part of our family. Thank you again for giving us Max even for such a short time. The Halliday Family |

Lucy (formerly Lulu) Hello to everyone at the Sydney Dogs and Cats Home. I was adopted on 19th August, 2007 and my Mum has finally got around to sending you a photo of me and letting you know how I am in my new home. I have a new big brother "Buster". I really love him and HE loves me most of the time, I can be a bit annoying, as puppies do. But he is so much happier now that I have come along, as he his lost his old mate a year ago and he was fretting badly for her. Mum says with me he is like a puppy again. Mum and Dad forget what it was to have a puppy around, I like to chew things up, even though I have many great toys and a great big yard to run around in, I still like to get into things that I am not supposed to, I really keep them on their toes. Anyway they still love me just as I love everyone here at my new home. I even like the 2 cats that live here, I sneak in when they are inside, but I just want to play with them, although they don't really want to play with me. Well thank you for looking after me until I was adopted and I hope all of the other cats and dogs get a nice home just as I did. Thank you from everyone in our home, we love Lucy very much.

Kirrily and Lucy |

Sadie A big woof and a lick to all the lovely people at Sydney Dogs and Cats Home that looked after me until I went to my new home. I have been living with my new owners since April 2007. I'm the first to admit I'm a little crazy around other dogs so might not ever make doggie friends but I LOVE people and at home I behave like a real lady. I love cuddles and licking is my specialty - you should see how long my tongue is!!! It didn't take me long to learn to sit on command...although when I get excited I forget. The best fun is going on long walks in the parks where I can run around on my long extendable lead. I also quite like attacking a pigs ear in the backyard. I sometimes even manage to sneak onto the bed while mum and dad are sleeping and snuggle in between them. Anyway, I just wanted to say how grateful I am to you guys for making sure I went to a good home and mum and dad want to say thanks cos apparently I'm the best thing that ever happened to them!!!
Lots of love |

Sammy
We adopted Sammy
from the home in November 2007. Initially, we'd gone to have
a look at another dog, and Sammy wasn't on our radar at all.
We were looking for a companion to our boisterous 3 year old
Welsh Terrier, Boswell, so he wouldn't be alone while we
were at work. Anyway, we met this scruffy little boy called
Sammy. He was about to turn 9 years old and has a little bit
of arthritis in his hip, but we felt we could give him a
good forever home. The two dogs didn't seem to have any
issues with each other, so it was into the car and off on
Sammy's new Obviously, Sammy was a bit traumatised about having yet another new place to get used to, and he suffered a bit of separation anxiety and barked incessantly whenever we left the house without the dogs, but this quickly settled down. Despite being a couple of kilos lighter than Boswell, he has quickly established himself as the boss, and they play together very happily (often it's more like a riot). Sammy does not seem like a 9 year old in any way at all! Every morning Sammy and Boswell go for a walk together, and on the weekends they get to go off the lead in Centennial Park for a long run around and play with other dogs. He really doesn't like joggers, so we have to keep an eye out for them, but at 7 kilos, he's not a serious contender for any trouble, and we're working on this with lots of rewards so hopefully, he'll soon let them pass without any stress. It's so wonderful to see Sammy enjoying himself, and he's very quickly become a much loved member of our family. He is a loving and intelligent little boy, who will be with us till the end of his days, and we adore him.
I would
recommend adopting a rescue dog to anyone - there may well
be some issues, as most of these dogs have had previous
homes and will have to adjust to your routine and life, but
it's not a huge amount of time and effort, and you will be
rewarded every day by the look in your dog's Annella |

Stella (formerly Suri) Hello to all the incredible staff at Sydney Dogs & Cats Home Thought I'd send an update and photo on Stella whom I adopted at 8 months old on 1 September 2006. She is a bit of a rascal and has destroyed quite a few things, including a telephone, but as she passes her second birthday she mostly behaves herself these days. She is, naturally, totally spoilt with two walks a day (early morning and night) and her own side on my bed where she likes to lie belly up with her legs in the air for tummy rubs.
Stella is very
intelligent but it wasn't easy in the start as she was
extremely fearful and didn't trust me. She had a terrible
phobia of traffic, especially buses where she would
literally shake all over in fright. I used to have to walk
via all the back streets so not to scare her. You would
never know this today to see Miss Cheeky Chops strutting
down Darling Street. She also spent a long time searching
for her previous owners whenever we were out walking, a
courtesy they sadly didn't have for her. Their loss is my
gain, she is so loving and sweet natured and makes me laugh
every day at her antics. We had a cancer scare in November
with the radical surgical removal of a Mast Cell So special thanks to all at the Sydney Dogs & Cats Home for your wonderful work and giving me the opportunity to know and adore this absolutely amazing dog. I love her to bits!
Cheers January 3, 2008 |

Clayton Good morning! Well, here are the first pictures of Clayton (suitably edited to remove the bleary-eyed, sleep-deprived and stressed parents). He's a bit taller and longer than Jethro - but lighter, so we'll need to get him up to a decent weight by suitable exercise and treats. Jethro is still the 'alpha' male so it should all work out as far as the pecking order goes (with Neil at the bottom of course). We had him bathed and trimmed on Saturday - so here are a few 'before' and 'after' photographs. We think they overdid it with the clippers - so we'll let his fur grow back pretty much to normal, with only a basic trim to keep him neat. These photos have revealed Clayton to be an Arctic Fox crossed with an Alpaca - so we'll be entering him in a new category at the Dog Show as soon as we can convince them to also take Jethro as the first of the new breed of 'Magnetic Terrier' (everything sticks to him!!!). Cheers, Denise and Neil December 23 2007 |

Adam Adam is wonderful pet. We changed his name Toby, He has his issues but everyone does. He is energetic so everyday after I wake up I feed him and walk him. Sometimes he gets tired so I carry him some of the way. Tobes eats more then the cat and never wants more. We take him on the plane with us. He hates the ride but never complains. One of my favourite stories about him is - I bought a pram for my niece and I made a mistake, I left it next to Toby. when I came back he was sleeping in it, I couldn't get him out!! so I took him for a walk and since that day he begs to sit in it. He is a Maltese X shi-zue X Lhasa Apso he is 3 now. Fran |

Fletch and Alfie Hi,
I just wanted to
send in some photos of Fletch who was also known as George
at the pound (the border collie) and Alfie who was
previously called Boston in the pound (corgi crossed with
foxie). They have loads of friends in the neighborhood and have regular play dates with Zoe and Baldrick our parents dogs. Two walks a day and Fletch gets taken for 10km runs with my partner while Alfie and I prefer a more sedate pace and a maybe a swim. This Christmas rather than buy them more toys we are going to donate some'money to Sydney Dog & Cats Home to ensure that other dogs get as much of an opportunity as our boys. Cheers Beck and Pete |

Buckley (formerly known as Pinocchio) I had been meaning to write and let you know how Buckley ("Pinocchio") has settled in since I adopted him about a year and a half ago. I was finally driven to write after dropping some food off at the home last weekend and observing how positively Buckley responded to being back there for a visit. I wanted to thank you for the great work you do. From day one Buckley has been such a big part of my life. Exuberant by nature he has, with training and attention, become a much calmer and more confident dog. He is very happy in his new home! I am amazed how strongly he has bonded to me - he is so sweet, follows me most everywhere and is generally very well behaved too (he has his moments of misbehaviour ... but we all do!). Buckley is very sociable with other dogs, loves his toys, travelling in the car on long or short trips, visiting friends and family, going to BBQs and parties and hanging out with his canine pals (his best friends are Charlie and Wally who were rescued from another shelter). He can be cautious with people on first meeting but is quick to respond to a gentle pat. I am pleased to say that after months of work he is now good on the leash and continues to improve every day. Buckley loves to go to the park to play ball (this fast became an obsession), run off-lead and play with other dogs. I have attached some photos, one taken a couple of weeks after I adopted Buckley and the other taken just a few weeks ago. You can see Bucley is doing well! I am amazed at how perfectly Buckley has slotted into my life and I can't imagine not having him with me. He has made a huge stamp on my heart. Thank you for looking after him! Angel Hi to all the lovely people and pets at Sydney Dogs & Cats Home, As you will see from the pictures it is love all the way for Miss Angel! She has settled into the family really well and has made our new life in Australia absolutely perfect! After a few dominant days midweek last week, and subsequently some new rules to understand, she has found her place in the pecking order and is a now a very happy dog. We have had trips to Centennial Park - with an interesting time with the ducks - and the first view of the sea at Port Botany this weekend.....she's not sure about swimming yet but sure we will get her there! She is a massive part of the family and, already, we cannot imagine our lives without her (Well except for the 7.30am wake up call she is giving us at the weekend.....!!) Thanks to everyone at the dogs home for their help, we check in each week to see who has been rehomed and hope all the other dogs find their new families soon. With all our best wishes Sam, Chris, Brooke, Finn and Angel (2 December 2007) |

Pedro Hello to all at the Sydney Dogs & Cats Home, We thought we would write to let you know how Peter Ustinov is settling in after being adopted in September 2007..... He is now named Pedro (because of our Portuguese lessons), and seems to be entirely at home in our decidedly non-nuclear family. Bradley and I and our flatmates Drew and Trish still find it hard to believe that such a beautiful, happy, friendly and well natured dog could be abandoned. He loves his morning and evening walks, and is usually incredibly well behaved. He knows to stop and sit before crossing the street, and usually walks without pulling on the lead. After his morning poo, he considerately sits nearby while we pick it up, before rushing off to see what else he can see. We're still working on his interaction with other dogs - although he has made a couple of friends at Victoria Park, some of whom also come from the Sydney Dogs & Cats Home. He even knows how to shake hands - we suspect that he is actually quite well trained, and we just have to find all the right commands by a process of elimination. He's not quite clear on the dividing line between things that are Pedro's toys and things that aren't. He will sometimes walk past with an entirely innocent expression on his face, and only some time later will the noisy chewing sounds and guilty expression tip us off that something was swiped in the instant that he passed by. More training needed! However, he's just as happy with a stick to chew on, and he seems to get the most pleasure out of his orange squeaky ball. He will sit and chew it for ages, singing along in harmony, which always makes us laugh. He quite happily entertains himself - he loves hunting moths or lizards in the back yard (we have seen him jump about four feet straight up from a standing start and pluck a moth out of mid air) and has his special spots in the garden where he likes to sit, now that we have moved some of Drew's plants to a safer spot, where they won't get slept on. However, he seems happiest when we are all at home working, or reading or watching TV - he will find the spot in the house where he can see all of us at the same time, and then lay there and go to sleep, sometimes on his back with his legs in the air, although he will snap back to alertness the moment anyone moves, and there might be a chance for a game. We have attached a couple of photos of Pedro playing in the back yard, and hiding in his (not so) secret cave. Thankyou for the chance to meet Pedro and have him in our lives. Michael, Bradley, Drew and Trish (21 November 2007) |
