As the dogs and cats come and go at SDCH, you won't be sponsoring a specific animal, but will know you are helping with the cost of feeding a dog or cat for that time.

If you donate, for example $30, this will help to cover the cost of feeding for 30 days for a dog or cat, $100 would help cover 100 day; $365 would help cover a whole year, etc.

We are of course, the lucky recipients of IAMS Dry Dog and Cat Food, however, we still need to buy wet food for the animals and we often need to top up the dry food in busy times.

A small sign acknowledging the sponsorship for the amount of days the donation is equal to will be displayed on a noticeboard in the main courtyard.

If you'd like to become a sponsor, go to our donations page and click onto the donations graphic at the top of the page to take you to our secure donations form.

We ask that you tick "Current Appeal": in the Direct My Donation To field, and follow up your sponsorship donation with an email to mail2@sydneydogsandcatshome.org advising us whether you want to help the dogs or the cats..

Alternatively you can send a cheque or money order to Sponsor an Animal at SDCH, Sydney Dogs & Cats Home, 77 Edward Street, Carlton. NSW 2218 and let us know if the sponsorship is for a kennel or cage.

Our dogs and cats will than you with licks and purrs

You can help by putting up a poster

Now Available.

Poster current at August 17 (No. 23) is now available.

Click onto the images of the posters to open and print. Our cats and dogs thank you for the extra exposure this will give them.

Some suggestions where you might display our posters are: your local vet clinic; your workplace notice board; your local library; your local community notice board.

By adopting one of our pound pets

Adoption into loving homes will always be at the top of our Wish List.

At any given time we have great dogs and cats looking for new permanent loving homes.

To see the cats and dogs currently looking for homes click on the cat or the dog.

By becoming a volunteer

Walk the dogs, enjoy a quiet moment with the cats, become involved and share some of your time with the animals in the pound.

By donating goods

We are always in need of newspapers, soft towels and polar fleece blankets or polar fleece by the metre.

Food for the animals is of course a priority. Tinned cat food (they always like Whiskas) and Rice which is used in a special mix for the dogs are always gratefully received.

And who could forget the toys - cat and dog toys are a real necessity as the animals in the pound spend hours cooped up in cages.

We now have the door on the Front Cat Isolation area, leading to the outside, thanks to one of our fabulous volunteers and his team who so generously donated the doors and labour.

We'd like to go one step further and create an area at the front of the Cat Iso so that the cats can go outside into the fresh air.

This would mean that the cats who find themselves in our Iso area should get better faster.

The work that needs to be done is removal of the current concrete, levelling the ground, pouring new concrete, building steps from the room to the outside and putting up a wire enclosure similar to the current outdoor cattery.

We're in the process of getting quotes for this work and hope to either raise enough money to have the work done before Summer or have the materials and labour donated.

All monetary donations to this fund are tax deductible.

If you'd like to donate, click here to go to our donations page. We just ask that you follow the donation up with an email to pleasehelp@sydneydogsandcatshome.org advising us that you would like your donation to go to the New Iso Cattery.

One of our volunteers knits dog coats, some of which are used to keep our dogs warm and some we sell to raise funds to help us care for the dogs.

If you'd like to help out, we'd love to hear from you.

We have patterns available that we can post to you. Just send an email to mail2@sydneydogsandcatshome.org if you'd like to help.

You can use wool or acrylic, however, we do ask that you mark the finished goods, so that we can wash or advise washing details accordingly. The patterns all call for 8 PLY wool.

If you'd like to help but don't have the time - we need wool, so if you have any 8 PLY in your stash that you don't want we'd be very grateful for it. Any colours, any amount!

Thank you.

Or you can help by

Donating to your area of interest

Financial donations are what keeps us open.

All donations no matter how small are gratefully received and help to save lives.

You can choose whether you want your donation to go to the Cat Fund or the Dog Fund or perhaps you'd like to split it 50/50.

We sometimes have special appeals for renovations to buildings, new cages and major operations needed from time to time and these are featured below.

Improving our Outside Dog Kennels

Over 50 years of being a “pound” has taken its toll.  The cement in many kennels is breaking up and the steel dividers with corrugated iron between each Run are starting to rust in parts – several dogs have suffered injuries from this metal trying to free themselves from captivity.

These antiquated Day Runs (pictured below) have been exposed to excrement, chemicals and basic wear and tear. The years have taken their toll. For our dogs’ health and comfort these conditions can no longer be tolerated. We need to act now!

Any life-threatening disease and infection can easily spread from one kennel to another caused by poor drainage, putting all our dogs at risk.

Donations will be used to isolate one kennel from another to limit the possibility of cross-contamination. This can only happen by rebuilding each kennel with bricks, rendering, laying new cement flooring, providing a better drainage system and hopefully replacing the leaking roof.
